Residential

Hampshire Autistic Society currently provides five residential units within the Portsmouth Locality, all registered with the Commission for Social Care inspection. The Locality Office, Day Service, Domiciliary Service, and Training Department are all based at Anglesey Lodge in Alverstoke, Gosport.

Our services for people with Autism began in 1980 with the establishment of Anglesey Lodge as a residential School. As the students approached school leaving age, it became clear that there was a requirement for adult services.

Service users at The Holt'The Holt' was the first of our Adult Development Services. Opened in 1985 and located near to Anglesey Lodge in Gosport, The Holt is home to six residents.

In order to provide daytime activities for the people living at The Holt, a Day Service was established in an outbuilding of Anglesey Lodge.

Today, a Day Service base is offered to all of the people living within the residential service along with a limited number of day places. Whilst there is a range of activities that take place at Anglesey Lodge, service users are supported to access our own industrial unit and allotment. Support is also offered in accessing community based colleges, work placements, and leisure facilities.

In 1992, we began the transition to specially adapted, community based houses.
'Ford Road' in Gosport, housing five people, was the first to be commissioned.

The need for housing has continued to increase and in 1994 'The Bungalow' was built in the grounds of Anglesey Lodge. This is currently home to five people who had been previously living at Anglesey Lodge.

The most recent development was the building of 'The White House' and 'Bonhomie House' in Brockhurst Road, Gosport. These two houses each provide accommodation for four people (the last residents of Anglesey Lodge). The design brief and specification for the houses was undertaken by the Society and the funding for the project represented a significant success for the Society’s fund raising department.

The Hampshire Autistic Society is currently working on plans to develop our Domiciliary Care Service, which will support people in their own homes (on a 'one to one' or 'shared household' basis), and assist with work, vocational and education placements.

Quality Audit Tool (QAT)

This audit tool has been developed by the Hampshire Autistic Society to obtain and maintain confidence that the services it provides are centred around the individual, are autism focussed and meet individual needs. It has been designed to check how well individuals using the Hampshire Autistic Society services are supported to achieve their full potential, it forms part of the Society's overall performance management strategy and complements the regulatory audits of services by CSCI and Ofsted.

The Quality Audit Review of Ford Road took place between the 10th and 27th March 2008. This was the first review using the recently developed Hampshire Autistic Society Quality Audit Tool. The review had two purposes, firstly to review the service provided to the individuals living in Ford Road and secondly, to be a pilot for the audit tool process itself.
