Bonhomie House and Phil White House
Both these residential homes were especially built for the Hampshire Autistic Society in 2002, and are situated side by side in a quiet cul-de-sac in the Gosport community.
Bonhomie House and Phil White House are both large four bedded houses with good sized communal living areas and their own gardens. The homes each provide accommodation for four adults on the autistic spectrum, and all service users enjoy their own rooms with en suite facilities. These homes are close to shops, main bus routes and the local town is easily accessible.
The philosophy of these homes is to support each person to develop their level independence as fully as possible. In the house we concentrate on developing independent living skills such as shopping, budgeting, managing their house and relaxation.
Off site we encourage full social inclusion with regular trips out to activity parks and evenings out in restaurants and pubs. We believe that for those who are able, they are given the fullest opportunity to develop appropriate social networks. We therefore support the opportunity for higher education and employment where appropriate.
All programmes that are developed are focused on the individual and the needs specific to them.
The Bonhomie House and Phil White House service users are able to access the Day Services from Monday to Friday at Anglesey Lodge and enjoy individual schedules of activities during their time there. At Day Services there are many activities on offer both on and off site, including a well equipped Art Room, complete with Kiln for the production of pottery as well as an I.T Room and quiet relaxation area. The Day Services accesses local resources such as colleges and sports centers as well as having woodwork and sewing room within a local industrial facility, where the service users who enjoy working with their hands are able to produce a variety of different products.
As with the Portsmouth Locality's other residential homes, the emphasis is to encourage the service users to fully participate within the day to day running of their home, whether this be choice of menus, decorating, gardening or shopping. The staff teams at both homes are led by an experienced Registered Manager and two Deputies. All staff is either qualified or undergoing NVQ Level Two or Three in Care qualifications. Hampshire Autistic Society prioritises staff training in order that we are able to offer the best support to the people that we provide a service to. Both homes follow Hampshire Autistic Society's policies in Person Centered Planning and this enables staff to support the service users to reach their fullest potential in life.
It is essential that all service users who reside at these homes enjoy life as much as possible while developing their daily living skills. We ensure that they are always consulted as to the running of the home. |
