Adult Services Video

Ford Road was opened in 1992 and provides 52 week residential accommodation to five adults on the autistic spectrum.

Ford Road is situated in the communal heart of Gosport and is within easy access of local shops, the town centre and a variety of community facilities. At Ford Road there are a contracted staff team who are led by the Registered Manager and a Deputy. All the Ford Road staff team are either in the process of undertaking NVQ qualifications or have already achieved this highly valuable training. Hampshire Autistic Society prioritises staff training in all relevant aspects of support for our service users to enable staff to assist people on the autistic spectrum to reach their fullest potential in life.

Ford Road itself is a large five bedroomed property where the service users are able to enjoy their own surroundings in their individual rooms, or mingle with the staff and other service users in the communal areas as well as the enclosed well kept garden. All the service users who reside at Ford Road are encouraged to choose and design their own rooms to their individual tastes and weekly service user meetings are held to ensure all have a say in communal decisions such as future activities, the weekly menus or interior decorating of the home.

The Ford Road service users access Day Services from Monday to Friday at Anglesey Lodge and enjoy individual schedules of activities during their time there. At Day Services there are many activities on offer both on and off site, including a well equipped Art Room, complete with kiln for the production of pottery as well as an I.T Room and quiet relaxation area. Day Services accesses local resources such as colleges and sports centres as well as having a woodwork and sewing room within a local industrial facility, where the service users who enjoy working with their hands are able to produce a variety of different products.

The emphasis at Ford Road is to encourage service users to actively participate in all aspects of the running their home. Ford Road service users are also able to enjoy and follow their own chosen interests whilst being encouraged to diversify and try new experiences. Hampshire Autistic Society has embraced the principles and practices of Person Centred Planning within all its services including Ford Road, where enabling choice and individuality are of paramount importance. The Ford Road service users are able to enjoy annual holidays of their own choice and trips to places of interest as well as other activities such as swimming, cinema, pub lunches, and walks along the local beach or wooded areas amongst many other places to enjoy.
