Always Carry Your Alert Card!

The Hampshire Autistic Society is very proud to launch the Autism Alert Card. The cards have been produced by the Society in partnership with Hampshire Constabulary and the Hampshire Police Authority and are available free of charge to anyone with an Autism Spectrum Condition (subject to supporting documentation being sent, please see application form below).

The cards should be carried at all times and can be displayed if the individual finds themselves in a situation where they cannot easily explain their behaviour. It will also assist the emergency services to identify that they are dealing with someone with autism. The card will carry the Hampshire Autistic Society's logo, Hampshire Constabulary and Hampshire Police Authority crests so they will be easily identifiable to the emergency services.

The cards give some simple advice, the person's name and emergency contact details.

On the 11th May 2010 Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service launched their Autism Alert Initiative and the Alert Car Sticker.

THE STICKER is to be placed with information facing inwards, blank side outwards, on the passenger side of the windscreen above the tax disc. In the event of a Road Traffic Accident, Emergency Services would be able to identify that a person with Autism may be on board.

Alert Card Project - Annual Evaluation Report 2009

Hampshire Autistic Society have developed and introduced, in partnership with Hampshire Constabulary and the Hampshire Police Authority the "Alert Card". It is essential that we collectively review our practice and I am pleased to share with you the evaluation report for the first year of this exciting project.

The broad conclusion of the report recognizes the value and real difference to individuals that the project has had and looks at ways the project can be improved and expanded.

I am also pleased to report that Hampshire Autistic Society are now working as a support to other counties/regions to enable them to run their own "Alert Card" projects.

Please take the time to read the evaluation report via the link below, and if you have any questions please contact me.
