Review of 'Old Style' School Sports Day (Saturday 21st July 2007)

'Old Style' School Sports Day

Wave 105's breakfast show presenter, Steve Power made a guest appearance to support the first ever Hampshire Autistic Society 'Old Style' School Sports Day and fun run which took place at Itchen Valley Country Park, West End. The event saw teams taking part in a series of traditional sports day races and activities as well as a summer fete which helped to raise £4895.76 for the charity.

The sports day races, coordinated by Portsmouth Royal Navy physical training instructors, saw over a dozen teams of six, compete in classic old favourites. These included the Egg & Spoon, Wheelbarrow, Sack, Three-Legged, Bean Bag, Five-Person Ski and the Tug of War. The fun was then followed by two more serious 4.5 mile running races for a major charity challenge, "Running is a mug's game" organised by Dave King, Deputy Editor of the Southern Daily Echo to help raise vital funds and create greater awareness for the charity. Steve Power, provided a comical commentary throughout the races and played a collection of his Glitz Mix hits to add to the entertainment of the day.

It was a fantastic day despite the weather and everyone was in high spirits and had an enjoyable time.
