Residential Options

Armstrong House, The Lodge and Bassett House are residential and educational establishments for students aged between 16-19. The houses are positioned either on or within close distance to the College Campus and have facilities including an ICT suite, a teaching kitchen, a quiet area and art facilities. The houses offer up to 52 weeks residential provision for students with a diagnosis of autism.

The houses offer a homely environment where each young person's bedroom is decorated to a high standard and the students are encouraged to choose their decor. There are kitchens that are equipped to enable the students to have 1:1 cooking sessions. The living areas are decorated to encourage a calm and relaxing atmosphere, where students are encouraged to mix socially with the appropriate support.

A person we support

We are committed to providing happy, caring, safe and secure environments for the young people together with individual structured programmes that support and develop social and life skills. We ensure inclusion to the wider community at every given opportunity. All programmes are tailored to each individual's wishes and needs.

All staff have received comprehensive training, tailored to the needs of the students. Each student is assessed on an individual basis and the support organised around their needs. The philosophy of the houses is to promote independence. This is established through encouraging each individual to reach their full potential in all areas of self development.

The Total Learning Environment

We specialise in the support and education of students who have special educational needs issued by their Local Education Authority and are diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum.

As with all of the Society's services, all of the houses employ experienced professional practitioners including Teachers, Teaching Assistants and residential support / education staff. The homes also benefit from the Society's Speech and Language Therapist as well as behavioural and communication experts.

Horse riding lesson

The learning is extended outside education hours, as we offer a 24-hour waking day curriculum. This is focused around independent living skills, socialisation, and community based activities. All these areas are focused on a person centred philosophy, where we encourage the students to make valuable choices about their lives.

Physical fitness and healthy living are covered by supporting students to make healthy choices for independent meals and to advocate a balanced diet; students are encouraged to be as independent as possible with regard to the preparation of their meals. A broad range of sporting activities are offered these include; swimming, gym, ice skating, golf, roller blading, cycling and scooter, orienteering, trampolining and horse riding.

Our aim is to provide experiences and teach skills that will enable students to develop as much independence as possible and prepare them to live satisfying and fulfilling lives within their community. We have high expectations of our students and are committed to helping individuals reach their full potential. All of the houses are equipped for the specific needs of the student.
