Statement of Purpose
Whitworth Crescent is a registered children's home that has been open since May 2004. It houses up to five pre sixteen year old students with a diagnosis of Autism. Whitworth is a large five bedroom detached house in a quiet residential area. We provide up to 52 week boarding and all of our students attend Hope Lodge School from Monday to Friday which is situated within walking distance of the house.
The focus of Whitworth is to provide a homely and friendly environment, whilst continuing to support the student's independence and learning.
Life Long Learning
On site activities are tailored to the individual's specific schedule. Each individual will have their interests respected and encouraged where appropriate as part of their ongoing care plan.
The ethos of Whitworth is to support and encourage each individual to reach their full potential by developing their independence as part of the curriculum.
Access to the wider community forms part of the continued development of the individual's development, supporting new and challenging experiences, maintaining consistency and building on achievements made.
Activities
All students benefit from a wide range of on-site activities, these include completing tasks that develop their domestic and self care skills such as cooking and house keeping skills as well as time spent relaxing in the sensory area, playing on the outdoor equipment and playing games. They also enjoy taking part in art and craft activities and movie nights. Having access to the wider community also allows the students to participate in regular outings outside of the home such as swimming, bowling, horse riding, ice skating, shopping and leisurely walks.
On weekends and holiday periods we like to go on wider excursions, these have included day trips to Butlins, The Isle of Wight, The London Eye and River Cruise, the Spinnaker Tower, Bournemouth, Play Zone, Marwell Zoo, Longleat, Monkey World and many more.
Regular visits from the students' family and friends are strongly encouraged
and the weekend and holiday periods allow for a more relaxed opportunity for
positive visits either to Whitworth Crescent or for the students to spend time
at home. |
